Fictionsburg County, Michigan  is a community in transition. As of the census of 2000, there were 349,262 people, 15,121 households, and 9,321 families. The racial makeup of the county was reported as 72.16% White, 22.43% African American, 0.49% Native American, 2.21% Asian, 0.11% Pacific Islander, 1.02% from other races, and 1.23% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 3.31% of the population. 

There were 15,121 households out of which 35.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 39.2% were married couples living together, 21.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.2% were non-families. 39.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 23.1% of those households had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older.  

The median income for a household in the county was  $35,811, with the bottom 20% of household’s annual income is $15,000.00 or less and the upper 20% of households making $100,000 or more. County Health Offices are currently receiving federal funds to deal with a growing opioid crisis and has been dealing with ongoing issues in the community relating to alcohol abuse.
