The Case

Shirley Carter comes to your primary care office on an urgent basis. She experienced a transient difficulty speaking and difficulty using her right hand the previous day. Although the symptoms resolved, they reoccurred in a few hours and progressed. She  was at a friend’s mountain cabin with her husband at the time. As soon as they returned, her husband brought her to the office. 

Patient Demographics

Mrs. Carter is a married, 72-year-old, Caucasian female who is a retired schoolteacher and the mother of three living children.
